Words

I haven’t chosen my one little word but I did do something I wasn’t planning to do. I signed up for Ali’s class for 2021. I even purchased the actual kit with all the bits and bobs. I have been doing this class for most of the last ten years and I have never purchased any of the supplies, just used the digital kits that come with the class and my own supplies. And I didn’t really follow along in 2020, even missed posting here a few months, so I was going to take a break for 2021. Until I read that this year, Ali is doing something new. She has invited eight women to join her as guest instructors. She is choosing to bring new voices into the One Little World community. Of course change is not easy and there are some folks who are unhappy. But I think it is brilliant. I have been working on bringing new and diverse voices into my reading, making, and online life since June.

And while I am not committing to one word just yet, I will share three words that I have been bumping up against lately.

JOY – I did an online quiz to find your word based on some prompts. I did it three times, deliberately changing answers. And the word that kept coming up is JOY. I love this word and I definitely want JOY to show up in my life. I’m just not sure it is THE word.

HOPE – Again, I keep hearing and seeing this word. And again, I do want hope. Is that my word? I’m not convinced I need HOPE as my OLW but I am trying to stay open.

HOME – This is the most recent word to show up. We have had plenty of home this year and I have been thinking a lot about things we want to do, changes we want to make to our home space. Not just because we are spending so much time here but to make it the place we WANT to spend time.

There are a few more words that I find myself writing in my notebook. The past few years, my word has shown up without much effort on my part. I would love to chat with you about words you are considering and how you are finding them. I am embracing this chance to be more intentional in choosing my word for 2021. The hunt is on.

Thanks to Carole for hosting our three things lists.

  1. I always sign up for Ali’s class, too. I used to buy her “stuff,” but never used it. She has GREAT products and ideas, and I’m tempted every year. (This year is no exception.) I LOVE what she’s doing this year — I think it’ll be really fun to see how it all plays out. As for my word . . . I’m down to 2 for next year. They both mean the same thing, though, so it’s really just deciding which form I prefer! XO
(How I choose my word: Most years, words just bubble up. I keep track of them when they do, and then look for a “theme.” They kind of . . . choose me.)

  2. I love that Ali is bringing in new teachers for 2021, I think it was getting a little repetitive and I actually didn’t even sign up last year. I plan on joining again this time, though. Joy was my first OLW and I learned so much over the course of that year with it. Like Kym, I feel like my word chooses me. I’m pretty certain on what it’s going to be for me in 2021, too.

  3. Another hand in the air here for ‘I feel like my Word chooses me.’ But when I look back, I think my current word also has some input. I feel like my Current Word points to my Next Word…

  4. I do have my one little word for 2021, but I have never heard of Ali’s class. Thanks for providing a link. I will check it out. My word found me months ago – I didn’t have to search at all. Woohoo!

  5. Hmm, I thought I had settled on my word but went over and took the quiz to see what it would give me, and it gave me Focus. I may have to do some more pondering.

  6. Ali Edwards! I remember her from my scrapbooking days — and that was a long time ago. I’m glad she found new pursuits because she is very talented. This looks like a really fun workshop. I am tempted …

  7. I’ve enjoyed reading your thinking about your possible word and how to choose it/allow it to come to you … I’ve often taken Ali’s class and am in two minds this year, but tempted by the new format. What has come to me is a phrase, rather than a word, so I’m pondering that …
