Hello March

September 2014

March is mom’s month. Her birthday was in March, on Pi day, and she did love apple pie. She also loved this month that brings sweet peas, pruning the roses, and longer days with more time to be outside.

For years, I participated in Slice of Life, a writing challenge for teachers. I had a great time blogging stories from the classroom but I’m not teaching so I had a different idea.

Lately, I find myself recalling stories of mom. I think of her as I sew or read to our grandsons, when I am in the kitchen or out for a walk. Maybe she is whispering in my ear or maybe the lockdown is finally getting to me. I started this blog to have a place to write down my stories. March seems like a great time to hit publish on some of those stories that have been chasing me. I don’t plan to post every day (or maybe I will) but I am ready to share a month of stories about this lovely lady that was my mom

  1. I’m glad that this month brings good memories for you with its arrival, and I’m looking forward to hearing some of your stories about your mother.

  2. Oh I’m so looking forward to these stories. I’ve been thinking about my Mom a lot. Her birthday was also in March – the 20th, first day of Spring.

  3. Everyone at Eastside Literacy loved your mom, your dad, too! She was my mentor, and I will always remember her. She was a wonderful woman! (We also shared the same last married name and grew up in the same state.) I am so happy to have connected with you!

  4. Looking forward to reading more … I always think of my Mum especially in March as it was her birthday month (19th) and of course Mothering Sunday often falls in this month too.

  5. oh Juliann – that is the sweetest photo … and such a lovely introduction to the stories you want to tell.
