So, I hinted that I have a new walking challenge. It is going to take me a bit of time to complete because the total distance is 1,803 miles! Yikes you say? Well, here is the story.
I was supposed to go on a walking/knitting trip in Scotland last fall. I was sorry that it was not possible but I knew that it would happen one day. That day might won’t be coming as soon as I had hoped so I began looking for something virtual to boost my enthusiasm for walking. I had watched an acquaintance do a virtual Camino de Santiago walk on Instagram and cheered her on as she finished last week (a 480 mile walk). On a whim, I asked for a link to that challenge and she told me about a UK walking challenge. That really sparked my interest. Before I could talk myself out of it, I was signed up for the Land’s End to John of Groats walk – from one end of the UK to the other. The best thing is that you go at your own pace. Along the way, you get virtual postcards and fun little bits of information about the route. May 1 arrived and I set out for my first walk. I know that summer will give me time to do some longer walks and hikes but I imagine it will be November before I complete this challenge. And by then, maybe we will have a better idea of when we will feel ready to board a plane and do some real life traveling.
