Bookish Bingo Ideas

When I printed this bingo card, I thought I had a great card. It is a very good card but there are some squares missing. I don’t have any audio book squares! And I have a lot of prize winner squares. I have ideas for most of my squares but I thought I would ask for an idea or two.

I have Lillian Boxfish as my go to for the Set in a single day. I tried Summerwater but it was not for me. Any other ideas?

And how about an amazing Debut?

Finally, I am stumped by Set in a different season, something other than an Ali Smith novel please.

I have my retelling book and hope to get to that later this week. And the prize winning box is almost ready to be checked off so I hope to have my first Bingo before the end of June.

  1. I just finished Taylor Jenkins Reid’s Malibu Rising (it just came out, so there may be a wait at the library). It’s set over 24 hours in a single day but with flashbacks to decades before. And it was a good read, too!

As for a debut, have you read Aftershocks yet? I was blown away by that book. What about How the One-Armed Sister Sweeps Her House? Also a very good debut.

  2. Oh, those are tricky categories! It’s hard to know what to suggest because we’ve already so many of the same books! Are you familiar with Listopia on Goodreads? I found a few lists that might be helpful for you:

    Debut novels:

    Books set in a day:

    Winter Reads:

(I also didn’t enjoy Summerwater. I finished it because I waited 14 weeks to get it from the library and kept hoping my feelings would change about it!)

  3. You’re off to a great start with your Book Bingo, Juliann! Some of my favorite debut novels . . . The Tiger’s Wife by Téa Obreht, There There by Tommy Orange, The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende, A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman, A Constellation of Vital Phenomena by Anthony Marra, The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller, Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese. (I keep a list of debut novels I’ve read over the years…) Happy reading! XO

  4. I have not done a book bingo ‘thing’ but I just had the idea (after reading several peoples’ choices over several summers) that one box should be “Just Could Not Finish It” 🙂

  5. One-Armed Sister is a great debut novel. (I read it for protagonist with a different ethnicity from my own. Could have filled a few different squares for me–so, not only a great read but a flexible Bingo title!) Have fun with whatever you choose–so many delightful options! The hardest/most fun part 🙂
